Overview: Now more than ever businesses need to take environmental issues seriously.  Not just for the health of the planet, but also for the well being of their enterprise.  Environmental performance is increasingly a factor in tendering requirements and also in the considerations of lenders and insurers.  Businesses that can demonstrate environmental commitment attract positive publicity, stakeholder goodwill and favourable credit from financiers.

Who needs this qualification?

Anyone who needs a basic understanding of environmental issues within the workplace. It provides a general awareness of environmental issues and can be taken by employees at all levels in the organisation.

The NEBOSH Environmental Awareness at Work qualification is designed to cover a range of issues affecting the global environment.

Topics include:

  • Basic Environmental terms and their meaning
  • Sources, impacts and controls of air, water, noise and land pollution
  • Dealing with environmental emergencies
  • Dealing with environmental impact (risk) assessments
  • Introducing environmental Management Systems  

Outcomes: On completing this qualification candidates will be able to:

  • identify, define and explain relevant environmental issues
  • identify, define and explain the aspects and effects of business activity on the environment
  • understand simple measures that can be implemented to reduce the impact business activity can have on the environment
  • understand the business and community benefits of environmental management
  • understand the principles and importance of environmental legislation and the authorities responsible for the its enforcement

Assessment: Multiple-choice exam

This course is CITB approved and grant aid may be available for those companies registered with CITB or Invest Northern Ireland.
