Safety Harness Training

Who Should Attend?

This course is designed for those individuals who delegate or participate in working at height activities using personal fall protection systems.

Aim

This course provides the core knowledge required by any user of safety harnesses, lanyards, anchor points and their associated products and will train delegates in the correct inspection regime and methods of inspecting safety harness and associated equipment across differing environments for working at heights. It will provide the candidates with the necessary knowledge and understanding in relation to identification of potential hazards and suitability of personal fall protection equipment used for working at height activities.

Objective

By the end of the course candidates will be aware of the following:

  • Legislation
  • Mechanics of a fall
  • Selection of fall protection equipment (includes common hazards associated with different equipment types) – includes practical exercise
  • Pre-use inspection – includes practical exercise
  • Anchor points and devices
  • Donning a harness – includes practical exercise
  • Storage, care and maintenance
  • Rescue requirements and options
  • Be able to identify specific hazards.
  • Ensure an adequate risk assessment has been carried out to comply with current legislation.
  • Be aware of employer and employee duties relating to application of safety controls.
  • Be able to identify defective equipment or systems.
  • Have sufficient knowledge and understanding to implement their duties relating to inspection and safe use of equipment for work at height activities.

Training Methods

There is a proportion of hands-on demonstrations and practical exercises, supplemented with classroom based tutorials for this training.
