NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety

Overview: The NEBOSH National Diploma is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge for a professional career in health and safety. The course is suitable for both newly appointed safety practitioners and those with substantial experience who wish to obtain Chartered Membership of IOSH. It equips holders to advise on effective management of risk across the range of employment sectors.
Management of Health and Safety in the workplace is not only a legal obligation and a moral imperative, it also makes good business sense. Qualified safety professionals are able to apply their learning to their organisation, reducing costs by preventing accidents and ill health of employees, either incurring unnecessary expense by over-reacting to trivial risks.
The NEBOSH National Diploma course is modular in structure and recognises success as the student progresses. Its practical approach promotes the application on knowledge acquired on the course to problem solving in the student’s own workplace.

The Syllabus comprises four core units:
A: Managing health & safety
B: Hazardous agents in the workplace
C: Workplace and work equipment
D: Workplace-based Assignment
Recognition:
The NEBOSH National Diploma is recognised by IOSH – The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health – as fulfilling the academic requirements for Chartered Membership (CMIOSH) conferring the official title of Chartered Safety and Health Practitioner. It is also accepted by the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM) as meeting their requirements for full membership. The NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety is at level 6 in the National Qualification framework, and is accredited by QCA, CEA and ACCAC.
Assessment: Written examination for each taught unit + work-place based assignment
Prerequisite: The Diploma assumes prior learning that is equivalent to NEBOSH General Certificate, therefore students embarking on this course must have a good underpinning knowledge in Health & Safety.
Award: A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A Diploma award parchment is issued on completion of all 4 units.
